A lot of people have skeptical attitude to various soap operas, but “Meerkat Manor” makes completely different impression on people in spite of beading soap opera.
“Meerkat Manor” is a British television program. It combines traditional animal documentary style with dramatic narration. It tells the story of the Whiskers, one of over a dozen families of meerkats in the Kalahari Desert. These charming animals have their social networks and in every episode we see development f their relationships and in general all episodes are made in such a way that at the end of one episode you are already waiting for the next one.
One of the main problems of the whole series is the problem connected with limits of reproduction. Each group is usually has a female leader and only she has the rights to have pups. Female leader has also male partner who supports her. In the colony of Whiskers, the name of the leading female is Flower. She is lucky to have pups four times a year. Her male partner is Zaphod. He grooms flower, protects her and tries to be her only one.
The laws concerning reproduction are really strict. If some female which is not a leader get pregnant, she will be punished. The punishment can be different – delinquent female can be excluded from the group, her pups can be killed by Flower or it can be just scolded.
The problem number two which is important for meerkats is fight for territory. As the colony grows, it is necessary to expand territories and it leads to the fights between neighboring groups.
So “Meerkat Manor” is a spa opera as many others but main actors and actresses are animals.
