The long hard years that you worked to become a doctor do not end when you take your final classes. No, they end when you have completed your dissertation. The style in which you write your dissertation is usually determined by the institution that is awarding you the degree. The house style, as it is called, may determine any number of factors is an essential part of a successful thesis- incorrect formatting can lead to the rejection of the dissertation. The style guidelines don't end there, either. There are field-specific standards, national standards and international standards that must also be taken into account. In most cases, at least one committee member is a professor from a different department than the student. In the event that further help is required by the student, there are a number of companies that offer dissertation services to help guide and support the soon-to-be-doctor in the final stages of their education.
